Industry 4.0

Industry 4.0 is known as the fourth industrial revolution and is based on digitization. A huge amount of new, faster and cheaper technologies are now available to companies who can utilize them in new products, processes and services in a flexible and efficient production that is easily adaptable for the needs of end users in a continually changing market.

Advanced robots, cloud solutions, 3D printers, sensors, measuring equipment and augmented reality are just a few of the technologies mentioned when people talk about Industry 4.0. Some of the technologies have been available for a while, while others are still being matured. The special thing about Industry 4.0 is that in current years, these technologies are put together in new combinations, creating the so-called cyber-physical systems. These are physical items equipped with a computer that enables the item to, for instance, gather and communicate data and control e.g. manufacturing systems. In other words - they are a coupling between the physical world and the digital world

The digitization of companies can create value in the form of for instance more efficient processes and fewer errors during the production phase, entirely new products or entirely new bases for decisions. In other words, Industry 4.0 is not a matter of a complete automization of the entire company that renders all employees superfluous, but rather an automization of certain work processes and valuable tools for the employees' everyday work, whether in terms of heavy lifting in the storeroom, wearing movements at the production line or optimized decision support for the company management in connection with business-critical decision making.

In the spring of 2018, BrainsBusiness collaborates with MADE on AAU on three thematic meetings aiming to bring together IT companies and manufacturing companies to ease the digitization process of the latter.
